Let me introduce our most popular festive appetizer. This delightful, elegant and flavorful Egg Cheese Roulade—is a perfect combination of creamy, nutty, and savory flavors. This no-fuss recipe features melted Edam cheese slices rolled into a beautiful log with delicious creamy egg filling!
Simple to prepare yet visually stunning, this roulade is ideal for special Eid occasions, holiday platters, or as a unique appetizer for your next gathering. Adding fresh green grapes as a garnish adds a refreshing sweetness, perfectly complementing the rich, creamy filling.
Easy, quick, and delicious—this Egg Cheese Roulade will become your go-to recipe for impressive and effortless gatherings.
Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F). On a baking tray lined with parchment paper, place 8 Edam cheese slices slightly overlapping to form a rectangle. Lay them down very closely, so they won't have gaps. I'm using Edam cheese slices, for it's melting properties and texture required for roulade.
Bake in the oven for 2 minutes, just until the cheese melts and fuses (do not overbake) - keep an eye and do not run from the oven! I almost missed and the cheese almost burned!
Remove from the oven, if there are some small gaps, gently tap with a spoon while it's still hot, to stick it together and let it cool slightly until it's pliable but not too hot - then you can easily detach cheese from parchment paper.
To make the most delicious and creamiest filling I chose the most fresh and matching ingredients. Here's how to make it:
In a bowl, mix together.
Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Spread the prepared filling evenly over the melted and cooled Edam cheese sheet.
Carefully roll the cheese sheet into a tight log, starting from one edge.
Use parchment paper or a tea towel to guide the rolling process.
Wrap the cheese log tightly in parchment paper.
Place it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow it to firm up. You can speed up the process by putting cheese roulade into the freezer for about 10 minutes - in case you are awaiting guests :)
Once chilled, unwrap the roulade and slice it into even rounds.
Garnish with 100 g fresh green grapes for a decorative and refreshing touch. You can use creativity and serve with zic zac cut grapes to decorate a platter or just enjoy Cheese Roulade on its own.
