If you're a fan of both baklava and cannoli, you're in for a treat! These Creamy Cannoli Baklava Rolls bring together the best of both worlds: the crispy, buttery layers of baklava wrapped around a creamy, indulgent filling that's reminiscent of cannoli.
These rolls are a unique dessert that combines textures and flavors in every bite. Perfect for your next gathering or whenever you're craving something extra special!
For the Baklava Rolls:
For the Cream Cheese Cream Filling:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the icing sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream, and continue to beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Let the white chocolate cool slightly, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture until well combined. Set aside and refrigerate until ready to use.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lay out the Phyllo dough sheets, covering them with a damp towel to prevent drying out. Brush one sheet of Phyllo dough with melted butter, then layer another sheet on top. Repeat until you have 5-6 layers. Sprinkle the chopped pistachios, sugar, and cinnamon evenly over the Phyllo dough. Carefully cut the layered dough into strips, about 3 inches wide (7cm). Roll each strip around a cannoli tube, starting from one end and rolling tightly. Brush with more melted butter to seal the ends. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and crisp.
Once the Baklava rolls are baked and golden, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Carefully remove the Cannoli tubes from the Baklava rolls. Drizzle each Baklava roll with honey, allowing to soak in for a few seconds. Using a pastry bag, pipe the chilled cream cheese mixture into the center of each baklava roll. Dip creamy corners roll in finely ground pistachios for a crunchy finish.
Arrange the baklava pistachio rolls on a serving platter. Optionally, drizzle with extra melted white chocolate or sprinkle with crushed pistachios on top for decoration.
